there once was a train named…

We’re driving in the car on the way to the gym. Jonah says, “Mama, tell me a story.”

I turn the radio off and begin:

Once upon a time, there was a…

Train! says Jonah.

Once upon a time there was a train named…

Dragon!

Once upon a time there was a train named Dragon. He breathed fire and he had wings, just like a real dragon. One day he went up a tall tall mountain. The train tracks went up up up. And when he got to the top, there was a castle there! The train tracks went right through the front door. So he went inside the castle and it was beautiful. And there was a real dragon there. His name was…

Train!

He was a dragon named Train. So the train named Dragon and the dragon named Train became best friends. And they breathed fire on marshmallows together. And they ate the marshmallows, which were delicious. The End.

Mama, tell it again.

(So I do: There once was a train named Dragon… up up up… dragon named Train… marshmallows… delicious. The End.)

That is not the end!

It’s not?

No.

What happens next?

They play music!

So the train named Dragon and the dragon named Train like to play music together. The train plays guitar and the dragon plays the violin. The End.

No.

It’s not the end?

No.

Hmmm… One day, a bird comes to visit them. The bird tells the dragon and the train, “You must come to my nest and play music for my babies. They love to sing!” So the train straps on his guitar and the dragon straps on his violin and they fly through the air with the bird and they land in the tree. They play music for the baby birds. And the baby birds all sing. The End.

No.

Not the end?

No.

What happens next?

They all fly away together.

Okay. So the dragon and the train and the baby birds all fly away together. Into a beautiful sunset.

…The End?

Yes!

Could this be a new book? Authored, edited and illustrated by the Adams family?

    Beautiful!
