because christmas isn’t over until the decorations come down from the roof of Ace Hardware

Santa and his reindeer are still all lit up on the roof of the neighborhood hardware store, I just came across this totally cute meme at Mayberry Mom, and I need a little pick-me-up after the wonkiness of day 2 of “transitioning” to preschool…

… a meme, found by Mayberry Mom at Swistle.

Eggnog or hot chocolate? Can they be combined into one uberbeverage of comfort and love? Must investigate this…

Does Santa wrap the presents or leave them open under the tree? Santa wrapped the one present we said was from him in the same exact wrapping paper that Jonah picked out at CVS. Imagine that!

Colored lights on a tree or white? White is so elegant. We do colored.

Hang mistletoe? Never have, probably never will, but have fond memories of the mistletoe at my first best friend’s house when I was a kid (Hi, Danelle!).

When do you put your decorations up? We bought the tree and the decorations on 12/23. The decorations were half-price. If we’d waited one more day, the tree would’ve been free.

What is your favorite holiday dish? Latkes, of course. But if we’re talking Christmas, it might just end up being fried sweetbreads and risotto.

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We didn’t, but we probably will next year.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree? The more colors, the more types of ornaments, the better. Even stuff from around the house, key chains, etc.

Snow: Love it or hate it? Like it, but in our lives it’s mostly theoretical.

Can you ice skate? If by “ice skate” you mean “remain upright and locomote forward while wearing ugly, rented boots with dull blades attached” then the answer is Yes! (Answer stolen 100% from Mayberry Mom.)

What is your favorite holiday dessert? Croque En Buche — had it at Dad’s office’s holiday parties as a kid. Now that I’ve typed it here, I may have to try and make it?

What is your favorite holiday tradition? Making up our own.

Candy canes: Yum or yuck? Yuck.

Favorite Christmas show? Elf. (Although I should also add “Wrapping Paper Caper” since I performed in it and helped create it during its first season in 2000.)

And you?

Glad you like this. “White is so elegant. We do colored.” slayed me.

Hope day 3 went better, if in fact you’ve reached day 3.

Hot chocolate, Santa wraps the presents (I have to be careful with the wrapping paper so as not to raise suspicions), we do colored lights, too (loved your answer!), never hung mistletoe, decorations go up Thanksgiving weekend, in our house we don’t really have traditional holiday meals (this year we did tilapia and risotto with apple pie for dessert), we didn’t open gifts on Christmas Eve, to decorate the tree we have lights, bows, and all sorts of ornaments – handmade and store bought (I also have a thing for snowmen) – oh, and an m&m guy as the tree topper, some snow is good, but too much is bad (like when we can no longer see to back out of the driveway – our current situation here in WI), I can definitely ice skate (I was a figure skater for 10 years with competitions and costumes and everything), my favorite holiday treat was the kringle my mom always made (something I have yet to try making), I’m not sure what my favorite holiday tradition is (perhaps the Hershey Kiss calendars my mom made for us – like an advent calendar), candy canes are yuck, and I’m a sucker for the classics, Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman.

    @Mayberry: ;+)

@Leanne: OMG, I love your list. Do you have the recipe for kringle? Maybe we can try it together, virtually-speaking. Figure skater for 10 years? That is probably the coolest life detail anyone could whip out of a back pocket (so to speak).
