Happy Birthday to me: I’m 38 years old today. And I’m debuting on Parenting.com’s new website, Project Pregnancy. Click the link to read my first new post. It’s on circumcision. Ow! (You’ll also see a few “archived posts” which you may have previously read here on this website.)
From now on, I’ll be posting at Parenting.com about once or twice a week, and I’ll continue to write posts here, and announce the p-dot-com posts with links from here to there.
In other news: Our cat Fred is in the hospital. It’s been a strange time of waiting and weeping. She’s old, and this is probably the end. Our hope is to get to bring her home today and just make her comfortable when she passes. Even though it’s my birthday. Because maybe that will be a good way to think of and remember her every year. (Yes, Fred is a girl cat.)
I’ve never been this close to a pet. When I was growing up, none of our cats lasted very long. We lived in the canyon in L.A. and inevitably our indoor cats would get out and be eaten by coyotes before I ever really got attached to them.
I’ve had Fred for 17 years. She’s been my “baby” for about half my time on this earth… my longest-term relationship besides my parents and sister.
And she lived long, and she had a good life. And Scott and I are both very sad.
We’re going to miss her loud loud lawnmower purr and her insistence upon sleeping on our chests and heads, and the way she’d STARE at us MEANINGFULLY when she wanted to be let out, or in, or fed.
Maybe we’ll get a little more time with her? We’ll find out the newest round of test results later today….

I am very sad. :…-((
