better, better, cute, worse, yummy

His rash is better. Apparently the purple stuff worked. And only a few items of clothing (his, mine) ruined in the process. Post-yeast there was some inflammation from him scratching himself, which we treated with triple antibiotic cream. So that’s all better.

The BOB situation is better. Rumors of his discontent with the stroller were greatly exaggerated. After schlepping the thing back to the store to discuss returning it (“We have never EVER had a customer return a BOB, said the perplexed and none-too-excited sales associate), we decided to keep it. Because, before taking it to the store, we stuck the Snuzzler in it.

Didn’t stick the boy, in the Snuzzler, in it. No, that would be too logical. We just stuck the Snuzzler in it, looked at it, talked amongst ourselves about the possibility that that might be the solution, loaded it in the car, and went off for Father’s Day brunch, possibly intending to unfold it and walk the boy around thereafter, but no.

So, we get to the store, wheel the BOB in, place the boy in it, and LO! He’s happy as a clam. We have the salesguy double check the straps, and the boy’s position. And we decide to keep it.

Because I am not cruel to my caregivers, and because I needed my experience just to be sure, on Monday we loaded the boy in and walked down to the shopping district (1/2 mile downhill). He chit-chatted to himself as we rolled. After a few stores, the boy was completely sacked out. Witness:

This is the view of him, looking down through the peek-a-boo window in the canopy.

Thus, when caregiver arrived later in the day, I could, with authority, tell her that she, baby, and BOB will now be friends. Kid-tested, mother-approved:

Rumors that he doesn’t like the recline position while strolling are also discredited by the above photo. (This is what comes of having other people push your baby around in one stroller or another and tell you what’s what while you spend your days sitting at a computer, trying to get work done.)

Of course, in looking up the Amazon links for the Snuzzler, I discover that they make a special one, just for Baby Jogger strollers. That’s my big fear, that I should have gotten a Baby Jogger City Classic instead of the BOB. So now you know that about me. Moving on…

Speaking of Father’s Day morning…

Cute:

So cute!

And now, the worse thing: Sleep. We’re having nights where he wakes up every hour, starting at 7pm. We have no sleep routine anymore, really, though we gamely read him a set of books, concluding with Goodnight Moon, in case that matters. The routine now is get him to sleep by any means necessary (nurse, rock, curse, etc.), lay him down, he shakes himself awake (oh no you didn’t!) and then we start again.

Sometimes it only takes two rounds of this, like tonight. So I shouldn’t complain. Just wanted to file the report. Truth in advertising and all that.

And in the food dept.: We’ve now added avocado and prune juice to our repertoire. Avocado because it’s yummy and prune juice for medicinal purposes — want to make sure he’s not allergic for when we introduce rice cereal later on and he gets constipated like almost every baby I’ve ever heard about gets constipated on cereals.

I totally agree with mayberry! Daddy looks very much like Hugh Grant in that pic! :)

My nephews LOVED avocado. They would just gobble it right up.

I feel for you as always in the sleep department. That just sounds completely awful. At least with babies no phase, good or bad, lasts for very long.

Megan’s favourite is avocado by a LONG shot too! All that oily fat…yum:)

I noticed the Hugh Grant thing when I first saw a pic of him, back in the early dating days. “Does he know he looks like Hugh Grant?” I asked. The answer was, he had heard of it but wasn’t really certain it could be true.

    So he’s cute AND modest.

The picture is so so classic. So darling! OMG!!! You have to blow it up and frame it and keep it in a prominent place in the living room.

I also like the happy mom with stroller picture. You look very perky and together and calm and energetic. Yay!

Sorry about the sleep thing. I know how that is… I, too feel for you.

You will get more sleep. He will change AGAIN and things will get better.
