Today was a day of firsts:
1. Mommy’s first time nursing under a blanket — in car, in the parking lot of Trader Joe’s, and only because the sun was hitting baby in the face and bothering him.
2. I figured out how to slip a fresh diaper under and over a wet one and slide the wet one out so no one gets sprayed.
3. The first sit-in-the-car-and-occupy-myself-while-I-let-him-sleep: He was zonked by the time we got home from moms’ group and lunch and I had my knitting with me just for such an occasion.
4. Today Jonah fell asleep without being swaddled, twice. Once for his late afternoon nap, while I was rocking him, and then tonight: He was dozing off after I nursed him. I just put him down for a moment in the bassinet while I checked email (assuming he’d wake himself up soon and we’d have to go through our usual swaddle and rock routine) and when I turned back around, he was asleep, in his little green long johns, on his back, arms spread out and, legs straddled. All wide open to the world. I am choosing to believe he can do this because he feels safe and loved.
Don’t you just LOVE watching your baby sleep in that arms flung wide position? So so safe and loved.
