this stuff happens to other people but not to me

So Scott and I went the wonderful store today where you can get baby gear AND nursing bras and I got re-fitted for mine.

At the register, I ran into a woman whom I recognized from prenatal yoga. Her bundle was in her snap-and-go, just like mine. We chatted a bit about birth dates and then she said, “So I guess you heard my birth story?”

Ummm… no.

“Karen told it in yoga class.” Small subconversation where we establish that since she hasn’t gone back yet herself (she has an older child, it’s hard to find the time) and I just started back to yoga this week, I wouldn’t have heard it. So she fills me in, because (hello?) how weird that someone else told her birth story for her. I don’t know who Karen is either, but that’s not terribly relevant.

She explains, “I arrived at Alta Bates in labor. I walked in, and gave birth in the lobby, standing up. My husband caught the baby.”

I’ve heard that second babies are easier, but still… wow!

LOVE IT! My second, one push just me and hubby in the room. I scooted back on the table so the babe wouldn’t fall off. When the doctor came in I asked for my money back.

My second baby almost came in the elevator. My favorite intern comment having barely made it to the labor room, “Oh my G-d! She’s 9 cm. dialated. What should we do?” He didn’t inspire confidence. I replied, “I donno. Why don’t we get the doctor?”

Oh I thought I was moving fast with Kid #2 because I only pushed five minutes, and he was born 15 minutes after the midwife walked in. You ladies all beat me!
