Mama-Om tagged me for this meme (and then Eric hit me up for a different one this morning — that silliness will be dispatched with soon…) that is circulating through the nablopomo community. The fun part is that not only should the list be random, but the tagging is random, courtesy of the randomizer thingy.
The rules are that I’m supposed to tell you the rules, and then tell you seven weird and/or random things about myself, and link this post back to the one that tagged me, and then tag some other people to do the same. Oh, and comment on their blogs, letting them know they’ve been tagged.
So here goes:
7 Weird and Random Things About Myself: My Brushes with Fame
1. I’ve been interviewed on the 11:00 News once, and once for a movie called 24 Hours on Craigslist; not because I’d done anything special, but because I happened to be in the right place at the right time in both cases.
2. I auditioned for but did not make it onto the kids’ version of the game show “Joker Joker Joker” when I was in elementary school.
3. I auditioned for “Puttin’ on the Hits” — a lip sync show — in high school, with a group of my friends. We tried first as the Go-Go’s, and would have gotten on, but the band wouldn’t give permission for use of the song (“Head over Heels”). Went back again with same friends as the band Wham!, but that didn’t work out for us either.
4. During my semester abroad in Russia, I helped to dub a film about women in the Soviet space program into English by matching up the English voice over tracks with the Russian bits. I made 150 rubles (about $3 at the time) for 3 days’ work.
5. In the 80s, I bumped into Michael Damian on the street in Westwood — where all the kids hang out, see movies, eat frozen yogurt. We were both wearing the exact same blue-and-white Guess? vest. He said “Hey! You’re wearing my vest!” Swoon.
6. Also in the 80s, also in Westwood, my friends and I bumped into Judd Nelson as he and we were exiting a matinee showing of The Breakfast Club. Quadruple Swoon. We told him we loved the movie. He asked us what we thought of his nose. (If you watch that movie again, notice that his nostrils look really big. Not sure if it was pre-nose job or a botched nose job….) We asked him for his autograph. He signed our hands. We photographed our hands later.
7. When I was an infant, my mother shopped at the same grocery store as Groucho Marx. He pinched my cheeks. She also went to the same dry cleaner/tailor as Priscilla Presley so apparently Lisa Marie and I used to play together on the floor of the shop. That’s what growing up in West L.A. will do for you.
So here’s 7 random people who should do this meme next. Tag, you’re it…
Wow, way more exciting than my childhood.
