waiting for something exciting to happen

The other day, Martha Stewart was addressing her studio audience. I’ll paraphrase, though I’m sure there’s a YouTube clip of this somewhere…

“How many of you have ever heard of a blog? How many of you have not? About half and half. Well, we’re very happy to have some bloggers here.” Gestures to bloggers, a small group of smart-looking 20-ish-or-30-ish-somethings with hand-written (and not very attractively, shame on you Martha!) name tags, some misspelled — it’s Smitten Kitchen, not Kitten. Martha mumbles a bit about how she adores Smitten Kitchen, and that links to all their blogs are on her MSLO website.

She continues, “Well, I asked my daughter Alexis about blogging, she has a very successful blog you know, on the Whatever website.” Screen shot of Alexis’ blog. “She has given me a lot of advice, that has helped me start my own blog! The most important thing, she says is to ONLY WRITE WHEN YOU ARE INSPIRED. That’s what a blog is. Your inspired writing.”

… There you have it. Thus spake Martha, and thus I found myself in writer’s block-landia these last few days. Pregnancy just has not been inspiring lately. My belly’s bigger. No surprise there. Scott may have taken some great photos of it to post but I don’t know for sure because the camera battery is out of juice and I can’t find the charger. By the time I find it, I’ll be bigger.

Our house is an absolute mess. Boxes of new baby things are everywhere, in doorways, in corners, piled next to couches, in and among the disassembled pieces of the crib/dresser/toddlerbed thing we bought off craigslist that Scott is going to sand and paint (so help us), a spare Ikea cabinet looking for a new location and purpose, piles of children’s books culled from our collections, other piles and boxes of books destined for resale or library donation, renegade piles of unopened mail on top of and in the midst of said boxes….

And just for fun, I called PG&E today because the gas smell in the laundry room has been bugging me for forever, but of course the guy who came couldn’t smell it and didn’t find any evidence of a leak. Still, I can take that off my to-do list so it was worth it for that.

When I was pregnant last year, I had many lapses in blogging. I think it’s totally normal.
