I recently purchased a set of parenting pamphlets from an organization called Hand in Hand Parenting, “Listening to Children.”
The set is, by far, my absolute most favorite parenting guide. I’ve read at least four books on parenting and communication and none have been as easy to digest and apply as these. I’m only partway through the set (there are 9) but I feel like recommending them already. If they suddenly suck at the end, I’ll come back and revise this post.
One of the pamphlets emphasizes having “special time” with your child. A period of time dedicated to playing with them and specifically letting them lead the play. Saying “YES” (ah, good old improv!). And part of that YES is making sure that there are no breaks to check the phone or email.
For tonight’s special time, Jonah suggested that we make a video. We’ve pulled out the camera on a few occasions, and he has at times engaged in easily half-an-hour of setup for such an event, but this is the first time that he has fully directed the shooting portion — the starts and stops.
The result is two short films. Enjoy:
Very cute!
I love these. Sweetly taps my long dormant Master’s work. Ah… The power of imaginative play.
So cute! I miss being there to play with him!
