Jonah has a computer that his friend Vida made for him at preschool.
Just now, as I was sneaking a peak at Facebook (oh no, I never ever check email or social media during our playtime because I am a saint, of course) he announced that he would like to work on his computer, also.
So Jonah brought his computer into my office and we cleared a chair and desk (a.k.a the air purifier) for him.
He was not quite ready though.
First I need the scrubby thing, he said.
Now I need videos and stories. I don’t have videos in there.
How will we put them in there?
We need a magic bag. I will take the videos out of the magic bag and put them in my computer. Is your camera bag the magic bag?
Oh yes. Here you go.
(Magic ensues.)
Mommy do you want to watch a video? Here is your treat. I have a lot of videos in my computer. They are Thomas videos. Some are VERY long videos that don’t stop. And, some videos that are Thomas videos, there’s also a video about cupcakes I can show you. Cupcakes that WALK. And there’s also in there doughnuts in that video too, and bananas, and avocados, lots of them that walk are in there. But never those videos, they never don’t stop. I’m gonna look for one. Do you think the Thomas videos are your favorite or the Thomas videos are not your favorite?
The Thomas videos are my favorite.
And the cupcake videos are your favorite. You can only watch them TWICE a day. My computer says that you can only watch one video. Do you want the Thomas video after the cupcake video?
Yes.
But it says on the back that you need to have one video, and then another video another day. So you get one video on Friday and another video on Saturday. Is it Friday?
Mommy, I’m going to tell you what to do. You don’t do temper tantrums about two videos. You only get to have one video.
Wait, I didn’t plug it in. Now I need to plug another plug in.
(Much hustling and bustling ensues.)
Oh no! We’ve runned out of plugs. Mommy, do you know if there is any more plugs?
Here you go (I hand him the printer USB cord).
(More plugging.)
Now, all the plugs are plugged in mom. Now set and ready to go! Set, ready to go! And, we’re…. off, he says, typing madly on his keyboard.
Mommy do you want the Cars video instead? There’s also the Cars video. I’m looking for the Cars video. There it is. Do you know which Cars it is about?
He runs into the other room and comes back with these:
(And now I know what Jonah and Daddy were up to while I was out meeting with a client this afternoon. Welcome into our lives, world of Pixar… 10 points added to Daddy’s final score for making an art project out of it.)
My, oh my! First the stories (more involved now), and the art (trains, dragons and automobiles), and NOW with the computer. Big steps you guys are taking! Look out Pixar…Jonah’s on his way!!!
Terrific!
I love Jonah’s computer! And his imagination and storytelling. And I would so promise not to throw tantrums after just one video if he would show one to me. Especially that Cars video.
