grateful and not-so-much

I have some theories about the powers of the Internet. Specifically that when one writes about something good, the forces of the universe will immediately switch on you (this seemed particularly true when blogging sleep trials and tribulations). So then does it also hold true if you blog the bad things? Does life suddenly get better?

It may be a particularly Jewish thing to not want to blog the good stuff. It is the way of my people who once lived in shtetls to believe that if you say something good about something the Dybbuk will come and take it away.

So I guess that’s the same.

There are many things I am grateful for in my life right now, but I have to hide them from the Dybbuk.

Now for the not-so-much category…

Yesterday I went to the chiropractor who again adjusted my poor feet. Hooray. (That’s the good part. Knock on wood three times and spit over my shoulder.)

Then, I dawdled after the appointment. Made eyes at a very cute baby in the waiting room. Made an appointment for Jonah for next week. Chatted with folks. Stepped out the door just in time to witness the parking ticket man standing next to my car, printing out a ticket. Time on my little pay-for-parking slip: 4:59pm. Time on the ticket: 5:00:23. As in one minute and 23 seconds after my stub expired.

Bastard.

Was he standing next to my car, waiting for time to run out? Can he write up (type up in his little gadget which also had a camera because it took a photo of my license plate) a ticket in one minute and 23 seconds. Really? Really?

Do you know how much expired parking costs in my hometown now? I’ll tell you: $58.

Really.

Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!

In other bad news, a beloved client whom I’ve worked with as a freelancer for almost 10 years has finally hired a staff member who wants to write their quarterly newsletter herself, rather than hiring me to write it. I am sad.

Perhaps there are new opportunities on the horizon. Perhaps my city government will make great use of my $58.

Come on, silver lining!

    Hi there,
After a lot of back-reading, I’ve just caught up today! I’ve so enjoyed reading your blog – thank you.
(I hope you had your camera handy to snap the 1min 23seconds proof… just in case you choose to argue your case)
    Take care
