Tonight we put him to bed in his big boy bed for the first time. And for the first time he fell out, at 9:47 p.m.
Sigh.
Fortunately, I’d put my old maternity body pillow (see, sometimes you save things and they DO come in handy) right next to his bed so he fell out onto that and didn’t even wake up, just snuggled in.
I put him back in the bed again. He’s still sleeping.
But will I?
What have I done to myself?
We’ve been talking for a while about this time in the future when we would be taking the bars off his crib. The future became now when today, he was climbing IN (a new favorite pasttime) and fell OUT hard in the process.
Okay, no more climbing. Bars have to go.
He was ECSTATIC. He ran around in circles talking about how much he loved his new big boy bed.
“And all the kids from preschool can come over and climb in my bed!” he said.
“And MOMMY can get in my bed! Mommy, lay down next to meeeee!”
It was pretty awesome.
So, yeah, about that preschool comment.
We appear to be starting a new preschool in the fall. I’m still a little in shock about the whole idea. Recently I had been explaining our exit from the old school to someone, who’d responded that it sounded like a bad break-up and it was no wonder I was having trouble committing to someone/someplace new.
But we had the getting-to-know-you potluck brunch with a bunch of the other families and kids this morning, and everyone was lovely. Jonah had a great time.
So hence the excitement at inviting all the kids over to get in our bed.
I’m hesitant to say too much about the preschool yet. Maybe after it becomes more real. In broad strokes: it’s a home-based school, two teachers, 12 kids, very sweet, drawing on a combination of philosophies.
Such huge transitions, all in one day. New community, new and treacherous sleeping arrangements.
Oh dear.
Update: At 10:57 p.m., I went into the room to check on him and witnessed him roll over, ACK!!!!, gently, off the mattress and POOF, land on the soft pillow. He spent rest of night sleeping on floor. Today am looking for bed rail or other blocking device…
Good luck with the new bed. He will get use to it soon enough. That or you could buy safety rails for it.
I am hopeful for you with the new preshcool. Sounds like it is starting off really well.
Thanks, Heather! We just bought this: http://www.gobedbug.com/GOPAGES/howitworks.htm
My friend has it and I think it will be a good solution for us.
Thank you for encouragement on preschool too!
