baby’s first bike ride (part 2)

What? you say. Where was part 1? I saw no such thing.

Jonah has been on a bike-in-motion precisely one time before. Click here to read about it.

Okay, so I didn’t KNOW I was pregnant the day I wrote that, but if you note the date of that post and then click here, you can see that I figured it out less than two weeks later.

So, anyway…

Jonah’s first post-natal bike ride occurred yesterday. Despite my million protestations. I’d asked all my biking friends (not that I have friends from being a bicyclist since I barely was one for like, a minute, but rather my bike-riding inclined people) what they prefer for toting their toddlers. Almost uniformly the dads prefer the bike seats, while the moms prefer the trailers. The trailers can detach from the bike if the adult rider were to… you know.

But Scott firmly insisted on the seat. I can’t be in charge of everything. To his credit, he listened to all of my complaints and fears for weeks and weeks, and then quietly went out and bought Jonah a helmet, borrowed a seat from a friend to try out, and then shepherded the lot of us up to the local playground for a safe place to practice and get me used to the idea.

I have to admit, now that he’s done the deed, it doesn’t seem so bad. Jonah LOVED it. Of course. And he wanted me to take a turn on the bike too. But that will have to wait until I get back on a bike on my own a few times, since I barely had learned to ride in those few weeks before getting pregnant.

So he settled for having me “push” — meaning they rode in circles and as they swept past me I would smack the back of the seat.

I’d still prefer it if we had a totally car-free place to ride.

Photo evidence:

He won’t much wear a hat, but a helmet with flames? You betcha.

Happy together!
