Okay, so I don’t really know which one was the 200th word because I was having too much fun using the sort feature to alphabetize the list, eliminate duplicates.
Sometime in the last few days, Jonah said his two-hundreth word. Let’s pretend that it was “Honey.”
Our mornings go like this: Jonah wakes up, Scott goes to greet him.
Morning. Hi. Dog.
Scott changes Jonah’s diaper, while Jonah cries and wriggles.
Mama! Nurse!
Scott brings Jonah to me in bed.
One! he says, meaning I would like one Boop to nurse on now, thank you. Scott goes into the kitchen and makes coffee.
Usually, if Jonah is done and Scott isn’t back yet, I’ll call out “Honey?” — this is my laziest part of the morning. I don’t get out of bed but send Jonah off to the kitchen with Daddy while I get an extra few minutes of sleep and a meditation in before Daddy has to get on the bus and go to work.
Only, this week, it was Jonah who stopped mid-nurse, looked up towards the door and called out “Hon-ee-u-leh?”
I’m toying with giving up on keeping track. It’s getting way too hard. He’s picking up and trying out new words all the time.
Another new favorite is “Bug-uh” which means ladybug. Tonight he was saying it and tugging at his shirt, saying “Shurt!” and looking down. Nanny explained that this is because a ladybug landed on his shirt a few days ago. He’s either checking to see if she’s still there, or just trying to chat about it. You know, those ladybugs? How they always land on your shirt? Me too!
So just for fun, here’s the alphabetized list of all the words he has been saying, compiled since the first word which was on or around September 20, according to my records here. Hopefully I’m only counting the ones he says independently, rather than when he’s imitating us. That’s a rule I made for myself because that makes it seem more official:

Dang, how many colors does he know? That’s first year of pre-school right there!
Guess it’s not a *huge* surprise that a color animation guy’s son would know his colors so early, but still. Orange??? And plum – would that be the color or the fruit?
Ok, ok, just thought I’d ask. With Dad’s profession, maybe the tot already refers to purple as “plum” and green as “sage”, blue “azure” or “Midnight” etc.
LOL.
Orange and plum as in the fruits, not the colors.
Green and yellow are the ones he’s clearly identified without prompting. He was pointing out red yesterday, but mostly imitating us so I’m not sure he really knows that one yet.
You can’t imagine the joy of talking on the phone with Jonah and him saying “Hi Popop” and then “Hi Nana” and then pushing the buttons and disconnecting the call!
What a wonderful mama and writer you are.
And Jonah is absolutely a wonderful wonder.
My favorite words are Nana and Pop Pop. My favoriet stories to tell about him are the Inaugration “hat” commnt and how he tells you “poop” and then crawls to the bathroom to go potty. Everyone listening is very very impressed!
Oh hanging up on grandma and pop pop, that’s classic baby behavior, good one!
