Saturday morning, in the living room, sitting on the big overstuffed chair, he’s on my lap. He taps my chest and says “Mama.”
I got pretty excited.
He patted my leg and said it again, “Mama.”
Woo hooooo!
I have a name!
The kid’s language seems to be exploding this weekend. Okay, exploding might be a little over the top, but he’s definitely babbling more, using more sounds. He seems to have nailed “caaaar” and “dou” (dog).
He’s been distinctly saying “pop” with a very well articulated second “p” (not many of his words have concluding consonant sounds. I hadn’t reported it here because for the life of me I couldn’t tell what it referred to.
Then, this weekend, I read him a book I hadn’t picked up in a while: The Very Hungry Caterpillar (we don’t have this giant board book edition but how cool is that?) .
One Sunday morning, the warm sun came up and — pop! Out of the egg came a very tiny, and very hungry, caterpillar.
“Pop!” said Jonah.
Aha!
Next we read The Snowy Day.
When we got to the part where the snow falls on the little boy’s head, plop! Jonah imitated me right after.
“Plop!”
I’m so proud. He’s extrapolating.
He also seems to be pulling up and cruising more and more. He’s working on that weight lifter squat to get up and down. We’re taking bets on when he’ll start walking.
Gulp.

It ended up being a three-party weekend. The playgroup on Saturday, adult friends who came by Saturday night (okay, that wasn’t really for Jonah), and the old buddies/aunties brunch on Sunday at which Jonah was the only baby and got LOTS of attention. I’m exhausted but even better, he’s exhausted. He fell asleep practically before he hit the mattress last night. Tonight he conked out on my shoulder while I was singing his goodnight songs to him. THAT has never happened EVER.
Clearly, I need to be having parties every day, so the boy can be sufficiently exercised.
Parties every day, now that sounds like a good plan… Made me laugh. I think my two would like to have parties every day as well. Bring Jonah over to our house this week. The kids are home. We’ll have parties every day… Not going to get much done anyway…
Great to see you Saturday. xoxo

Parties rock. Falling asleep on your shoulder? What an awesome birthday present for you! And that language is amazing. I don’t know any babies with that many “words”
