Today, when we walked into the nursery to greet Jonah from his morning nap, he was sitting up in his crib to receive us, smiling.
This is extraordinary because he’s never gone from lying down to sitting up on his own, ever.
We don’t know how he got there. Mother In Law thinks maybe he pulled himself up using the crib bars. He’s been pulling up on things, mostly climbing us. He took a stab at a stair the other day.
Still doing his perfectly charming elbows and belly army crawl to get around though.
He’s also possibly getting a handle on his “other” first word (besides “Whoa,” and “Ohhh,” both of which he uses in context, frequently). “Cat.” Well, not really the whole cat. But “Ca!” — and while looking at said animal. He also says “Kih Kih” which could be “Kitty.” The kicker is that when you ask him “Where’s the cat?” he looks right at the cat. Or looks around for him if he’s not in the room.
MIL has been in town since Thursday and we’re doing our best to wear her out. She’s a trooper. Came straight off the plane to a quick sandwich at the house and then off to sign language class with a subset of my moms group. Friday she came with us to the extended long-playing super duper mom-baby yoga class. Saturday we took her to a wedding in the Presidio, followed by a trip across the Golden Gate and a stroll in Sausalito. Today, except for the Farmer’s Market and a trip to Lakeshore, mostly, we rested.
