…among other things which have apparently kept us from blogging.
I didn’t want to jinx it by talking about it — due to the curse of the web that takes away that which one joyfully boasts about on one’s blog as soon as one hits publish.
Jonah’s 10-hour-continuous-sleep nights have continued, lo this last week. Both of us have been thus getting more sleep, and as a result, are sleepier during the day; a normal byproduct of the end of a prolonged sleep deprivation cycle. I’m sure as soon as my body catches up, Jonah will stop sleeping again. I’ve been warned by one article on babycenter.com that when the separation anxiety kicks in, that can lead to night waking (where’s mommy?). And Ask Moxie has a whole host of posts on the 9-month sleep regression (coming soon to a crib near us?). On the upside, she says regressions are often followed by even better sleep overall. For some, anyway.
Other popular gerunds: We’ve also been scooching, sitting, rolling, teething, drooling, babbling, singing, putting things on our heads and finding this incredibly hilarious, and becoming less and less interested in any solid food that is not fruit.
I tried feeding him hard boiled egg yolk today and Jonah was not impressed. Mixed it in with some avocado, but still no dice.
More activities:
My parents were in town again this past weekend, so Scott and I got to go on another movie date. Hellboy II. He practically had to drag me to dinner afterwards, so programmed am I to feel like I should be near Jonah at all times, even when he’s sleeping.
On Monday we had a photographer come to take a “family” portrait. I put the word in quotes because somehow the shoot became 70% about taking pictures of Jonah on a blanket. I blame myself some — I was a little frazzled during the whole thing and was more inclined to let the photogs tell me what to do rather than drive. Admirably, at one point Scott called a halt the proceedings and got us into the desired threesome, but then soon after, the reins escaped us again.
At least this sitting was free. We only pay for the photos we order (or books, or whatever). Local Bay Area readers of this blog who would like the photographer’s contact info, please comment below and I’ll email you the link.
It was the baby law of physics that my almost constantly smiling boy was a wreck on Monday, refused to nap, seemed more bothered by his teething than ever, and generally looked at the photographers like they were suspicious intruders on his world. This somewhat dims my hopes of his future as a baby model and the subsequent dream of having college paid for before puberty.
We did finally get him to smile when we invoked the power of peek-a-boo with Scott’s shirt. Maybe we’ll get a good picture out of this after all. Stay tuned…

P.S. Photos came out MUCH better than expected. Gorgeous, in fact. And, you almost can’t tell how hard we worked to make him smile.
