in which i simultaneously console and redeem myself

Inspired by my clothing rant this morning, I unearthed my black-and-white bias-striped and fringed shawl from my clothing vault.

The shawl is a few years old, and was startlingly fashionable (dare I say “Rock Star”) when I bought it… With the passage of time, it had burrowed to the bottom of the scarf drawer, hiding from my belief that it had passed its use-by date.

But shawls, shawls, shawls! They are so forgiving. They don’t care how pregnant you are. They just fit.

So here I am, out in the world, in my black and white shawl, black pants, black t-shirt, white tank top, white purse, black shoes, white laptop computer… practically a fashion statement:

And I didn’t even really pick up on the connection until after I’d ordered it that my sandwich fit the theme:

Olive tapenade and fresh mozzarella on ciabatta bread, called, yes, a “Black and White.”

Even the fact that someone hit my car — again — today, the back end this time, (even though I had parked in a HUGE, EMPTY parking lot with miles of space around my lone little car on all sides) pales in relation to the pleasure I receive from my stylish outfit. It helps that the guy left a note. And that I know exactly where I can go to get it fixed. And that, just maybe, this means I’ll get more of my nine-year-old car re-painted with the help of insurance money. Woo hoo! A little refurbishing for everyone.

Now to get up to speed on the diaper dilemma…
