the somnolent insomniac gets a growth scan

Strange days/daze: Spent almost the entire weekend sleeping. Feeling like a big hibernating mother bear. Then last night (this morning), 3:30 a.m., bolted awake. Wide awake, but not useful awake. Just awake. Short breath, heart rate elevated, can’t sleep, awake.

Probably is another hormone spurt, or perhaps like a woman told me yesterday, when the baby’s adrenals come online (so to speak), the mother gets a boost. It certainly felt like adrenaline. But again, sadly not the kind of boost that results in lots of things getting done.

I watched Tivo: Desperate Housewives, The Next Iron Chef (ooh, I love that show), The Gourmet Next Door… Anything that Scott wouldn’t mind my watching without him. By then it was 6:00 a.m., so I tried crawling back into bed and managed to sleep fitfully till 7:30. Time to get up and get ready for our (almost) 34 weeks growth scan.

Good news: The baby is five pounds. This is average for his gestational age, we were told. The ultrasound technician didn’t give me a nice percentile to chew on this time, so I tried looking it up in internet-land. I think he’s a little above average, and am now worrying about how big he is going to get.

I have to worry about something, right?

On the plus plus good side, baby is head down, and facing my spine, exactly the right position for birth. Now if he can just stay that way for about 48 more days, give or take a little wiggling.
