the preschool diaries: the remains of the (first) day

So, here’s how the bento came back:

Rice cakes were a dud. Sandwich was not as popular as expected. Cucumber was much more popular than could possibly have been anticipated. Dates and cheese were demolished — not surprising. All in all, I think we did good.

What will I pack tomorrow? Need to get to the store. Good thing he likes the dates as that’s the only fruit I have in the fridge at the moment.

I was actually nervous when I went to pick him up this afternoon. Why? No news was good news, as far as I knew, and that did indeed turn out to be the case.

He was happily playing in the playground when I arrived and it was satisfyingly difficult to get him to leave. His teacher reported that he didn’t cry at all. In fact, he did great! There was a new art piece in his cubby for us to take home — a melange of yellow dinosaur stampings in three clusters on a plain white background.

Photographed him on the way out, beside the waterspouts — he loves to stop and remark upon them and how the itsy bitsy spider goes up and gets washed down — and the duck spigot.
