My kid does the best cat meow imitation ever. If there were a contest at the county fair, he’d totally win. Because he learned how to speak cat from Bambino.
M-AOW! Bambino says, sharp and loud. Because he’s that kind of cat.
M-AOW! Jonah says right back. And has continued to say whenever he chats directly with Bambino. Which is different from the times when he is simply discussing what Bambino is doing or would like to do next.
He says, “Bambino. Is. Med.I.Tate.Inggg.”
“Bambino. Would. LiketoGO. OutSiiiiide.”
Since we’re on the subject, Jonah also likes to sit with Bambino (Sit Wiff). Today he wedged himself next to said cat who was staring wistfully out the sliding glass door to the back yard. Jonah, sitting next to cat, looking out same door, reaches out with one hand and pats cat. Sooooo cute. Really. For a second, and then Bambino gets up and goes somewhere else because really, toddler patting? Not so comfortable. More like thumping.
But I digress.
Today one of his younger friends was over. A girl of just over a year, who is working on talking in the most credible babbling way. You know she knows what she’s saying. So Jonah is showing her one of his toys and she’s saying something to the effect of “Ahh Bla Dah!”
So he says, “Ahh Bla Dah!” matching her pitch and tone perfectly, an expression of total agreement. And the two go back and forth like this for a bit.
He speaks cat AND toddler.
The other thing he does is narrate. For example. He shows her his toy Yelllll-o BUSssss.
And he says, as he’s waving it in front of her face, “‘That’s Aaaaah Cool-BUSs,’ Saysz Maaadlyn.”
Like how people talk in books, right?
“Bambino. Is. Med.I.Tate.Inggg.” That made my day.
And do all kids with cats speak perfect cat? My son did the same thing. It was uncanny how much he sounded like our cat.
And narrating? That Jonah is something else.
I think it shows a whole lot of genuine attention to his little friend that he can so effectively communicate with her. And of course the cat is obviously some kind of magical Dr. Dolittle thing. Either way, outrageously CUTE.
