jonah’s directorial debut

I recently purchased a set of parenting pamphlets from an organization called Hand in Hand Parenting, “Listening to Children.”

The set is, by far, my absolute most favorite parenting guide. I’ve read at least four books on parenting and communication and none have been as easy to digest and apply as these. I’m only partway . . . → Read More: jonah’s directorial debut

today we were fragile

I picked Jonah up from school today with two of his friends. We currently have 3 carseats strapped in the back, artifact of nanny share days, so I volunteered to be carpool mom.

Of the two girls joining us, Jonah decided he wanted the OTHER one to sit next to him. And he decided to . . . → Read More: today we were fragile

pediatric dentist

Today was Jonah’s first “real” visit to the dentist.

We took him once before, about a year ago. He sat in a kid size chair at a kid size table in the corner of the room and watched while I had my cleaning. He played with a geography puzzle. He was pretty good at it.

kauai with preschooler, days 2-through-8 (round 3)

And poof, it’s over. Am already back in Oakland which was shivery and cold and gray from the moment we returned through midday today, just depressing enough to make the already fading memories of the trip a little more vivid before they are gone.

Mornings: the balmy air, the papayas, morning beverages and books on . . . → Read More: kauai with preschooler, days 2-through-8 (round 3)

traveling with preschooler in kauai: day 1 (round 3)

We came to Kauai as a family for the first time when Jonah was barely 4 months old.

And now we are here, with our almost-4-year-old.

Given that it’s now 11:15 pm, Pacific time, and that we’ve been up since 6am, I am . . . → Read More: traveling with preschooler in kauai: day 1 (round 3)

jonah’s jokes

We’re trying out jokes with Jonah. With some success. Witness:

Me: Knock Knock

Jonah: Who’s there?

Me: Banana

J: Banana who?

Knock Knock

Who’s There?

Banana who?

jonah’s stories (shark renditions)

He says to me:

“Tell a story about Remmy and Hammy.”

(We’ve been making up stories for a couple of weeks now about Hammy the hammerhead shark and his best friend Remmy the Remora fish. There’s also a Mako shark named Skate that showed up one time. I have hardly had the chance to write . . . → Read More: jonah’s stories (shark renditions)

Dinosaur Train Under the Sea1

We had a normal-to-rough-ish day. Threat level: Yellow/Bert.

It started out mostly sweet. Jonah had his morning beverage and I had mine. We squished into the glider chair together and read about dinosaurs.

Getting him out the door to preschool (well, summer care, but same difference really) was a bit . . . → Read More: marry me
