I’ve been throwing Hannukah parties for about fifteen years, with the occasional gap. Like in 2007 when Jonah’s birth and first weeks of life had me too busy to fry anything.
Every year I have to bone up on the blessings. I remember them mostly. But it helps to check. And pretty much every year I sing solo, or maybe assisted by a brave friend/cousin or two. Partly because most of my guests are not Jewish.
For the first in my ad hoc (meaning totally unplanned and I hope I can come up with eight topics) eight-post series to build excitement for and remind myself of the meaning of Hannukah as the first night approaches in eight days.
