I also sing this song in the car – small world! At my summer camp it was:
avalanche (“swish”)
bear (“grr”)
st bernard (“ha ha” panting noise)
jersey cow (“ch-ch” with udder milking motion)
pretty girl (“smooch smooch”)
her boyfriend (“bang” – the abrupt end to the song).

I do think girl scount was in there some where (“cookie sir”)

Mel – I say yes! Totally counts as a play date. So glad it was helpful at the doctor’s appt!

Hand gestures: For the ooo-leee-ah wind up, slap hands on thighs like drumroll.

For the oleakeke ya olea cuckoo cuckoo it’s thigh slap, clap, snap, then slap clap, two snaps (of course you can do first verse with one cuckoo, second verse it’s 2 cuckoo birds.

St. Bernard: raise hands like puppy paws (woof)

Grizzly Bear: Grrrr — hands like bear claws

Skier: whoosh — sound and sweeping arm motion

Avalanche: rumble rumble rumble — hands rolling over one another

Girl Scout: I CAN’T REMEMBER! Ack!

Thanks for the reminder on waddaly atcha. Now I’m totally singing that to myself. I believe I used to do the basic thigh slap, clap, back front hands, but each one is twice (two slaps, two claps, two back hands, two front hands) and it stays the same all the way through???

So I have now been singing “Once an Austrian went yodeling” to Marlo since you posted, and it got us through all of the worst parts of her cardiologist appointment today. Thanks Julie and Jonah! If we’re singing them the same songs at the same time, is that kind of like a virtual play date?

The bonus question is: Do you remember the hand gestures that used to go with the yodeling part of the song? I can’t remember and it’s making me crazy. I have googled it to no avail. I have also been unsuccessfully searching for the hand gestures that go wtih “Waddaly Atcha.” Anyone?
