more prenatal test results: don’t worry

The remaining chromosomes have been counted and in spite of my extremely advanced maternal age (38 on Tuesday, Happy Birthday to me), everything is in pairs, like how they’re supposed to be.
Oh, and there’s no toxoplasmosis virus in the fluid either.
But the two-vessel umbilical cord thing is more of an issue than first reported.
While the […]

fat or pregnant? my belly photos

We’re 18 weeks today.

Scott has taken to calling us “guys.” As in, “How are you guys doing?”
I’m now a plural.

just stuff

Today I took both cars to get washed (not at the same time) and got my legs waxed, and got a super fancy pedicure complete with lavender buds and rose petals and milk powder in the soaking water, a scrub, a massage, and hot paraffin booties.
Lest you think me a total slacker, I also met […]

recipes of the week

Given that I spent most of the week worrying about the amnio, and recovering from the amnio, I didn’t get to do a whole lot of cooking. But Scott did.
And my award for recipe of the week, or rather, meal of the week, goes to:

Pan-grilled venison sausage with oven-roasted zucchini and potatoes
All items came from […]

phew!

It’s a… healthy boy. At least as far as chromosomes 21, 18, 13, x, and y are concerned. FISH test results came back “normal,” and now I can relax. Of course there are the other pairs of chromosomes to worry about if I want, and that extra toxo test I took, for just in case, […]

it’s a…

I’m in shock. I really really thought I was having a girl. At least two friends had told me that they’d had dreams about my baby being a girl. And what about my friend who’d said our inseminating activities having taken place in advance of ovulation meant we’d have a girl? And then there was […]

surviving the amnio

We had the amnio test yesterday, and anticipation was in fact worse than actuality.
We arrived at the lab at 1:00 sharp, as I had explicitly been instructed to do by the nurse who made our appointment over the phone two weeks ago.
At around 1:30 we were called in to meet with the genetic counselor who […]

peanuts are back on the good list

Yes, I already said I’m not a huge fan of them, but I have missed gnawing on an occasional chicken satay with the sauce (it’s pointless without), and to have one more food item to be less afraid of ingesting, well that would increase the calm factor slightly.
All it took was for me to read […]

recipes of the week

This first one was sooooo good and tasty. Came from epicurious.com, incorporating modifications suggested by readers in the comments, and skipping the whole cut into small pieces on skewers thing, because we don’t have any skewers, or a barbecue grill. But we do have some lovely steak knives that we received as a wedding gift.
Cumin-Marinated […]

back into the pool

Went back to prenatal swim class again today. In fact, I joined the Y for the summer to take these classes. So this is my current exercise regime: Swim on Mondays and Fridays, Pilates on Wednesdays, prenatal yoga on Thursdays.
I still haven’t busted out those exercise DVDs I bought. I have to watch them though, […]
